The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has clinched the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest for a sixth consecutive term in office.
Gbajabiamila polled 30 votes unopposed at the Lagos APC Reps primary which took place on Friday at Akerele Primary Health Centre, Surulere. Interestingly, he was the sole contestant for the ticket.
NAN reported that the representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Ganiyu Adeyinka, announced the result and declared Gbajabiamila the winner.
The Speaker, who represents Surulere Federal Constituency of Lagos State, has been in the green chamber since 2003, making him the second longest-serving member of the House of Representatives in the history of Nigeria.
He served as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives in the seventh National Assembly, and later Majority Leader in the eight Assembly.
In 2019, Gbajabiamila was elected the Speaker in the ninth National Assembly with 283 of 361 votes.
