After nearly five months, the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Allied and Education Institutions (NASU) have suspended their ongoing strike.
According to reports, the leadership of both unions resolved to call off the industrial action after a meeting with the Minster of Education, Adamu Adamu, on Saturday.
The PUNCH reported that the suspension is to last for a period of two months.
It would be recalled that in March, SSANU and NASU embarked on strike, over a month after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) commenced its lingering industrial action.
Some of the demands of the striking unions include the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, payment of earned allowances, usurpation of non-academic career positions by vice-chancellors, the inclusion of university staff school into the university community, non-payment of minimum wage arrears, funding of state universities, among other issues.
Meanwhile, the ongoing ASUU strike has clocked over six months, as thousands of Nigerian students remain at home with their academic aspirations hanging in the balance.
