The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has launched an investigation into an altercation between Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a 300-level student of History and International Studies.

The incident, which has gained widespread attention on social media, occurred within the Faculty of Arts and allegedly escalated after the lecturer attempted to pass by the student, who was recording a TikTok dance video in the faculty corridor.

It was reported that Dr. Okoye tapped the student on the shoulder to get through, but she reacted angrily, accusing him of hitting her. The situation quickly escalated into a heated argument, leading to a physical confrontation.

According to university officials, the lecturer, believing he had been unknowingly recorded in the TikTok video, requested the student to delete it. The student allegedly refused, and in the ensuing struggle, she bit the lecturer twice on the arm, leaving visible injuries.

Videos of the altercation have since gone viral, showing the lecturer attempting to restrain himself while the student held onto his clothing aggressively.

In response to the incident, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has ordered a full-scale, transparent, and unbiased investigation. In a press release signed by the Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, Njelita Louis O., the university reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, fairness, and justice.

“The university remains committed to upholding discipline and decorum. Appropriate actions and sanctions will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” the statement read.

The Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, also confirmed the development, assuring that all necessary steps are being taken to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

The university has urged students and the general public to remain calm and avoid speculation as the investigation unfolds.
