The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), has expelled Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, a 300-level student of History and International Studies, for physically assaulting a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.
A statement issued by the university’s Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor I. Modebelu, on February 13, 2025, confirmed that the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC) found Chimamaka Precious guilty of gross misconduct and violation of the Students’ Disciplinary Regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR).
Following the SDC’s recommendations, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, approved her immediate expulsion on behalf of the University Senate.
The expulsion follows an altercation on February 11, when the student was filming a TikTok dance video in the Faculty of Arts corridor. Reports indicated that Dr. Okoye attempted to pass by, tapping her on the shoulder to signal his presence. The student allegedly became confrontational, accusing the lecturer of hitting her.
The situation escalated when Dr. Okoye requested that the video be deleted, as he suspected he had been recorded. In response, the student allegedly bit him twice, leaving visible injuries on his arm.
Following a full-scale investigation, the university determined that her actions were unacceptable and in violation of its code of conduct. She has been directed to vacate the university premises immediately and return any university property in her possession.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline and ethical standards, warning that it will not tolerate any form of misconduct from students or staff.
