Unilorin Teaching Hospital Suspends Prof Salami Over Unethical Handling Of Suspected COVID19 Patient
A senior consultant at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Professor A K Salami was moments ago suspended by the hospital management over how he handled a patient suspected to have suffered from the novel coronavirus.
According to the official statement signed by the Director of Administration, David S Odaibo and obtained by BlackBox Nigeria, the management of the teaching hospital described how Professor Salami conducted in handling a suspected case of COVID19 as unethical.
BBN360 gathered that trouble started for Unilorin Teaching Hospital on Thursday, 2nd April when a patient that was rushed to the hospital a day before he died while receiving treatment was a COVID19 patient. It was learnt that Prof Salami personally admitted the patient without disclosing the travel history of his patient to his colleagues as the patient was said to have recently returned from London.
It was further gathered that the London returnee was admitted at the Accident and Emergency Ward of the hospital which had other patients receiving treatment. He later died in the early hours of Thursday and the hospital released the body to the family through Professor for burial arrangements (in accordance to Islamic rites).
An Ilorin source disclosed that the hospital management’s decision to suspend Professor Salami may be due to the fact that the wife of the deceased patient tested positive after her samples were taken for COVID19.
