UNILAG denies kidnap attempt at school gate

The University of Lagos has debunked media reports claiming that a kidnap attempt was made on a female student at its campus gate.

The management of the institution, in a statement issued by its communication unit, described the claim as false.

Reports had made rounds on Tuesday that two unidentified men tried to abduct the said student by forcing her into their car and hit her head with a stone. It took the intervention of two campus security operatives to rescue her from her assailants.

Narrating their side of the story, UNILAG stated that “the incident was a case of social misconduct and physical assault between students, in which one party attempted to flee the scene and was apprehended by the University security towards the Onike gate axis of the University.”

“The case is being handled by the Security Unit and Division of Students Affairs,” the statement said.

The Vice-Chancellor and university management also assured students, parents and members of the public that the security and safety of all students remains a priority at the University of Lagos.
