Global ride- hailing firm, Uber Technologies Inco on Friday launched a pilot test of a boat service in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos state, to attract commuters seeking to avoid the mega city’s notoriously congested roads.
The water way service, Uber BOAT, is operated in partnership with local boat operator Texas Connection Ferries and the Lagos state water ways Authority (LASWA) said the ride- hailing firm. This initiative is aimed at providing commuters with an easy and affordable way to get in and out of the city’s business districts “Uber said in a statement”.
Each trip is to cost N500 as bookings can only be completed with the Uber App.
The Uber boat service will only be available on weekdays from the next 2 weeks starting from 11 to 25 October 2019.
Uber Boat will be traveling along the following routes:
Ikorodu- Falomo in the morning (500 per trip)
Falomo- Ikorodu in the evening (500 per trip).

Babajide Sanwo Olu, the Governor of Lagos state said Uber BOAT service and the use of water ways in general were part of a raft of initiatives aimed at easing congestion that include a program of road repairs.
