Barely two months after being sworn into office, Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, the Vice Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, has died.
Ajose, who was inaugurated on July 27, 2025, alongside the LCDA Chairman and councillors, passed away on Saturday, September 20, cutting short her tenure as one of the newly elected leaders of the council. She was the daughter of His Royal Majesty, Oba Oyekan Possi Ajose, the Alapa of Apa Egun-Awori Kingdom in Badagry.
Reports confirmed that her remains have been deposited in a morgue, but the cause of death has not been disclosed, and funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
Her passing adds to a string of recent tragedies that have hit local government leadership in Lagos.
BlackBox Nigeria had earlier reported that in August, two other female councillors also died within days of each other. On August 13, Oluwakemi Rufai, Councillor for Ward C1 in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, died after a brief illness, just two weeks after taking office. She was the only female councillor in her legislative council.
Five days later, on August 18, Zainab Shotayo, the youngest councillor and only female representative in Odi-Olowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, also passed away after a brief illness. She represented Ward C3 and had only recently been elected Chief Whip of the legislative arm.
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed suggestions that politics played a role in the deaths, describing such insinuations as baseless and misleading.
The sudden death of Princess Ajose has thrown the Badagry community into mourning, with residents and political stakeholders describing the loss as another devastating blow to grassroots governance in Lagos State.
