Two children of the late MKO Abiola, Kassim and Aliyu, have spent nine days in the detention facility of the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Lagos over allegation of robbery.
The two sons, Kassim and Aliyu were arrested in their father’s house at 42-46 MKO Abiola Crescent, Off Toyin Street, Ikeja, on September 2, after reports of a robbery at the house in the early hours of the same day.
The sons have, since sued the Commissioner of Police, asking for N100m in damages.
The suit was filed by Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja. In the suit, Kassim and Aliyu are alleging that their arrest as well detention were directed by their stepmother, Mrs Adebisi Abiola, who, as they allege suspects them to have had a hand in the robbery attack.
Barr. Mike Ozekhome (SAN) is arguing that the arrest and continued detention of Kassim and Aliyu violate their fundamental rights under sections 35, 37, 41, 44 and 46 of the 1999 Constitution.
