In a historic leap for Nigerian broadcasting, TVC Communications has introduced the country’s first set of Artificial Intelligence (AI) news anchors.
The innovation, unveiled in a press release on Wednesday night, comes through the company’s flagship brand, TVC News.
It features AI-generated news bulletins delivered in English, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Pidgin Nigeria’s most widely spoken languages targeting the country’s richly diverse population of over 240 million people.
“This development represents a bold step in bridging linguistic divides and ensuring inclusive news coverage,” said Victoria Ajayi, CEO of TVC Communications.
“Our AI news anchors will enable us to take our news coverage to the next level as we showcase our commitment to leveraging technology to drive growth through innovation.”
Ajayi emphasized that the AI initiative is designed to support, not supplant, the station’s human journalists.
She described TVC’s workforce as a “constellation of seasoned professionals,” and reassured the public that editorial standards would be upheld.
To address global concerns surrounding AI in media such as misinformation, bias, and deep fakes,TVC Communications disclosed that multiple safeguards have been implemented.
These include watermarking AI content, strict editorial oversight, and adherence to the Nigerian Broadcasting Code.
All AI-generated news segments, the company confirmed, will be reviewed and approved by trained editors and journalists to ensure accuracy, balance, neutrality, and cultural sensitivity.
With this groundbreaking move, TVC Communications becomes the first media organization in Nigeria and one of the pioneers in Africa to deploy AI-powered newscasting.
