Trump Warns BRICS Nations Against Abandoning U.S. Dollar, Threatens 100% Tariffs
U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to the BRICS countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—over their reported efforts to abandon the U.S. Dollar in international trade.
In a post on his official X handle, Trump warned that if the BRICS nations follow through with plans to adopt an alternative currency, they would face severe economic consequences, including 100% tariffs from the United States.
The president emphasized that these nations would also lose access to the U.S. market if they successfully replace the Dollar with another currency.
He wrote, “The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar, while we stand by and watch, is OVER.”
Trump went on to assert that the BRICS nations must commit to not creating a new currency or backing any alternative to the Dollar, or face severe repercussions.
“They will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy,” the statement continues.
He concluded by firmly declaring, “There is no chance that BRICS will replace the U.S. Dollar in International Trade, or anywhere else, and any Country that tries should say hello to Tariffs, and goodbye to America.”
Trump’s remarks highlight the growing tensions surrounding the global dominance of the U.S. Dollar, as BRICS nations explore alternative financial systems.
