U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a fresh attack on the Grammy Awards and its host, Trevor Noah, threatening legal action after a joke made during the live broadcast sparked outrage from him.
The controversy followed a remark by Noah at the 68th Grammy Awards, where the comedian joked that Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland made sense “because Epstein’s island is gone,” implying an association with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The comment drew audible gasps from the audience and quickly went viral online.
Within hours, Trump responded angrily on his Truth Social platform, describing the Grammys as “virtually unwatchable” and accusing Noah of making a false and defamatory statement.
He insisted he had never visited Epstein’s private island and warned that he was prepared to take legal action against the comedian.
In his post, Trump also mocked Noah’s performance as host and compared him unfavourably to late-night television hosts he has previously clashed with.
He said Noah should “get his facts straight” and claimed he would instruct his lawyers to pursue a lawsuit for damages.
The Grammys ceremony marked Noah’s sixth and final year as host, a fact he referenced during the show while delivering several political jokes.
