Trouble in Ikorodu APC as Ajisebutu, Tijani continue struggle for chairmanship seat

There are strong feelers that a leadership crisis has beset the All Progressives Congress in Ikorodu Division, Lagos, following the emergence of two factional Chairmen.

On one side of the divide is Mr Olasunkanmi Jimoh Tijani and his executives whose names were listed in the consensus list signed by the leaders of the APC in Ikorodu Division.

The consensus list.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the group recently held a meeting at the residence of a former deputy governor of the state and a pioneer chairman of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD), Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, as captured in a now-viral video.

However, Alhaji Murisiku Ajisebutu who claims to be the “legally recognized and authentic chairman” of the Ikorodu APC, in a statement on Sunday, described Tijani as an impostor who failed to emerge at the party’s wards and LGA level elections held on July 31, 2021 and September 4, 2021, respectively.

Ajisebutu noted that against claims made by Tijani and his group, the Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi has no interest in changing the list of party executives in Ikorodu at at wards and LGA levels.

The statement read in part, “It is important to educate Mr Tijani that we were warmly received by the SW zonal party officer and former commissioner of Information and strategy Mr Lateef Ibirogba and equally spoke with the State party chairman on phone who was unavailable, to show our displeasure on why his insistence to change Ikorodu list after several of failed attempts at the National Secretariat of the APC at Abuja, but the chairman was quick in his response that he has no interest in changing the list from Ikorodu but Prince Abiodun Ogunleye and Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun are putting pressure on him to change the list compulsorily even though the Appeal Committee assigned to Lagos State had visited the State and received no complain from Ikorodu, and also the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party ‘APC’ had met and ratified the congresses nationwide at the ward and LGA levels, and forwarded to the National Headquarter of INEC at Abuja and my humble self “Alhaji Murisiku Ajisebutu” proceeded ahead to participate at the State Congress to elect and ratified the present Lagos State EXCO led by Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi.”

The politician warned the “impostor” to desist from parading himself as the Chairman of the Ikorodu APC, urging him not to fall victim of chapter 48, section 484 of the Criminal Code which stipulates a three-year jail term for impersonation.

“I want to inform our esteemed and faithful APC members and the general public to disregard Mr Jimoh Tijani who is deceptively parading himself as APC chairman in Ikorodu Division, and also refrain in dealing with him on the APC matter in the Division,” Ajisebutu added.
