Trouble in AIT, Raypower as board sack late Dokpesi’s widow, 10 others

Three years after founder’s death, DAAR Communications PLC, owners of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and RayPower FM has dismissed several long-serving directors from executive positions.

This includes Tosin Dokpesi, Managing Director of AIT, the youngest wife of the late founder and chairman, Chief Raymond Dokpesi.

The board’s decision requires directors with tenures of 10 years or more to retire, affecting individuals such as Tony Akiotu, the General Manager of DAAR Communications, Ambrose Somide, Managing Director of Raypower FM, Paulyn Ugbodaga, and Tony Uyah.

However, Raymond Dokpesi Jr. is the current Chairman of DAAR Communications and leads the board that dismissed them.

Sources familiar with the matter reveal that this retirement directive will be enforced starting in November.

“About 11 directors that have spent 10 years and above have been asked to go on retirement. One of them is Tosin Dokpesi who is the widow of our founder and chairman Chief Raymond Dokpesi,” a worker under anonymity disclosed.

Raymond Dokpesi, the founder of Daar Communications, passed away on May 29, 2023. His son, Raymond Dokpesi Jr., has served as chairman since 2019. The company recently reported a substantial financial loss of N1.6 billion for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2023.
