Tragedy Strikes Saint Academy, Jos: Two-Storey School Building Collapses During Exams, Students Trapped

 

In a devastating incident at Saint Academy in Jos, a two-story school building collapsed today, trapping numerous students inside while they were writing their third-term examinations.

According to reports from the scene, the building, which housed classrooms and administrative offices, collapsed suddenly.

Witnesses noted that Junior Secondary School One (JSS1) students occupied the ground floor, while senior students were on the upper levels.

As the news unfolded, emergency responders from the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) sprang into action.

Sunday Abdu, the executive secretary of SEMA, confirmed the deployment of personnel and collaboration with other relevant agencies to initiate rescue operations.

Eugene Nyelong, the zonal coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), emphasized the ongoing nature of rescue operations, stressing that the full extent of casualties would only be known once all students were accounted for.

Ambulances from various organizations, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), NEMA, Red Cross, Army, and Police, swiftly transported rescued victims to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
