A shocking incident unfolded in Calabar, Nigeria, as a police officer, Inspector Stephen Enang, slumped and died after watching Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in a Champions League quarter-final match.
According to eyewitnesses, Enang, an ardent Arsenal fan, was in high spirits during the match, celebrating each goal with his friends at a viewing center on Abang-Asang Street, Vanguard News reported.
However, after the final whistle, Enang suddenly slumped in his seat and became unresponsive.
Despite efforts to revive him at the Police Hospital in Akim, Enang was pronounced dead. The cause of his death has not been officially disclosed, but his friend described him as “healthy and happy” during the match, suggesting a possible medical emergency.
Enang’s colleagues and friends were left shaken by the incident, describing him as a “soft-spoken, football-loving, and an ardent Arsenal supporter.”
The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the community, with many still trying to come to terms with the tragic event.
The Cross River State Police Command has yet to release an official statement, as efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, were unsuccessful.
The incident has left many questions unanswered, and an investigation is expected to be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding Enang’s death.
