A heartbreaking tragedy has befallen the Lagos State civil service following the death of a senior official, Mrs. Serifat Olubukola Talabi, just days before her scheduled retirement and 60th birthday celebration.

Mrs. Talabi, who served as the Head of Procurement Unit at the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA), lost her life in an auto accident on Saturday, October 18, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Camp, in the Ibafo area of Ogun State.

She had been preparing for her combined retirement and 60th birthday thanksgiving, planned for Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Invitations for the event had already been distributed before the tragic incident occurred.

A dedicated public servant, Mrs. Talabi was widely respected among colleagues for her professionalism and commitment. She joined the Lagos State Civil Service in 2001 and rose through the ranks to become one of LASRRA’s senior management officials. Her name appears on the agency’s official management staff list as Head of Procurement Unit.

News of her sudden passing has thrown the Lagos State civil service community into mourning, with colleagues and friends describing her death as a devastating loss to both the agency and the state.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
