Tragedy as seven women burn to death in accident

Seven lives have been lost to a flaming bus in an accident that occurred on the Sagamu-Benin expressway on Wednesday.

According to Premium Times, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), in a statement, confirmed that the accident occurred at 2:50 pm on Wednesday.

The accident involved a lone Mazda bus with registration number AGL 886 YD carrying worshippers travelling from Kosofe, Lagos to Epe for a church revival.

The bus went up in flames due to an engine oil overflow resulting in seven women being burnt to death while seven others were left badly injured.

Although the bus carried 15 people including 14 females and one male, only 14 of them were victims as the driver of the bus escaped unharmed.

Speaking further on the accident, Akinbiyi said, “According to an eyewitness account, the bus burst into flames suddenly due to engine oil overflow.

“The number of passengers in the commercial bus was 15, out of which seven females were burnt to death, while the remaining seven were seriously burnt and taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital for treatment.

“The accidented Mazda bus has been taken to Odogbolu Motor Traffic Division.”
