It appears the people of Ijede LCDA are taking no chances to ensure that they produce the next representative of Ikorodu Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly in the 2023 elections.
What began as a strictly political affair has now turned spiritual, as a group of traditionalists from Ijede and Egbin towns insisted that the rotational arrangement for the LAHA seat must be honoured by leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The traditionalists who are primarily worshipers of dieties — such as Osugbo, Awo Opa, Igunnuko, Jigbo — made this known at a gathering on Sunday.
Invoking ancestral spirits, they laid curse on any party leader or politicians from Ijede LCDA that decides to support the third term agenda of the incumbent, Hon. Nurudeen Solaja, describing such individuals as ‘betrayals’.
It would be recalled that there have been series of disagreements over the next Ikorodu Constituency II’s representative at the State Assembly. This came against the backdrop of a rotational arrangement that was made years ago by the party leaders from the three local councils in Ikorodu Constituency II — Imota, Igbogbo and Ijede LCDAs.
Having spent two terms of eight years in the House, Hon. Solaja, from Imota LCDA, is expected to bow out of office. However, the incumbent is hellbent on seeking re-election which appears to be a threat to Ijede’s chances of clinching the APC ticket at the primaries billed to hold on Friday, May 20.
Meanwhile, the three local government chairmen in Ikorodu Constituency II as well as traditional leaders, at a recent meeting, had maintained that the rotational principle must be honoured.
