The role of Emergency Obsteric ians cannot be over emphasised as they come in handy to save the lives of both mother and child at birth. It was on this note that the Founder of Wellbeing Foundation Africa, Mrs Toyin Ojora-Saraki welcomed and congratulated health workers who just completed their course.
BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the Foundation in partnership with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene organised the Emergency Obsteric and Newborn Care (EmONC) Education. The course was organised in Kwara State.
While welcoming the graduands at the Omu Aran General Hospital, Irepodun LGA, Mrs Saraki stated that the EmONC training helps to save lives and have helped the State to attain a demographic dividend in the country.
She said, “I am greatly encouraged by the lives saved through the EmONC training. Innovative training of this kind directly saves lives of mothers and newborns and also helps us to attain a demographic dividend in the region and country.”
“Since we chose to harness resources and techniques towards making Kwara State a flagship of excellence in implementing global health innovation, in Nigeria. The results are evident, an increased preparedness of medical workers to predict and provide care for mothers, reinforced by improved data surveillance, towards beneficial eventualities in childbirth outcomes, and a clear drop in mortality rates in line with sustainable development goals targets,” she noted.
