Top 10 Outstanding Designers At Just Concluded Lagos Fashion Week

 

The 2017 edition of the Lagos Fashion and Design Week recently came to an end in Africa’s fashion capital amidst pomp and pageantry. Here are 10 outstanding designers whose style stood out at the week-long event…

 

Mai Atafo

Keeping it classy and cool, iconic Nigerian designer Mai Atafo didn’t disappoint with his showcase on Day Three. Mixing African patterns with European designs, Mai used his designs to tell the story of the Nigerian man without fashion borders, band he tagged his collection – The Village International.

 

Lisa Folawiyo

Lisa Folawiyo returned to the 2017 edition of the Lagos Fashion and Design Week after a year absence but it appears nothing has changed. Her designs were incredibly simple, but classy and colourful. Her showcase was an embellishment of sultry designs from prints.

 

Maki Oh


A golden child on the Nigerian fashion scene, Maki Oh lived up to the hype by showcasing amazing ‘Adire’ designs reminding everyone why Michele Obama, Solange Knowles, Lupital Nyong’o and many other global celebs find her style unique.

 

Tokyo James

Designer, Tokyo James was also at his best on Day Three delivering a topnotch presentation of the modern man. Inspired by TECNO Mobile his showcase were monochromatic outfits, patent, crocodile pearl, trench coat among others. Dapper and daring describes it.

 

Onalaja

The women’s wear brand again pushed the ante of African designs with its weft woven, patchwork designs and fringed out hemlines done with Aso-Oke on Day Four. With sheer and flirty designs, Onalaja excited the audience with her audacious styles.

 

Tiffany Amber

Elegance and grandeur readily came to mind at the sight of Tiffany Amber’s showcase on Day Three. Redesigning the African style in what is named the Tiffany Amber Culture Collection, Tiffany used ‘Adire fabric’ (Tie and Die) to make modern styles with huge and sultry offering.

 

Style Temple

The Abuja based women’s wear served it hot and classy as they showcased on Day One. Focus was put on well-structured wearable pieces with a couture edge, clean geometric cuts and shapes with a standout detail.

 

Davido and Orange Culture

Popular fashion brand, Orange Culture ahead of the 2017 edition of LFDW went into collaboration with pop star, Davido to present the Capsule Collection and the result was nothing short of amazing. The collaborative effort showcased classy easy to wear designs which carried Davido’s hit single, ‘IF’ insignia.

 

House of Kaya

An exciting highlight of Day Two was the amazing showcase of House of Kaya. The couture house chose to go conservative presenting ingenious and religious designs inspired by Northern Nigerian Muslim ladies. The designs focused on how ladies can be fashionable without revealing their body.

 

Ejiro Amos Tafiri

Showcasing her designs on the first day of the Lagos Fashion and Design Week, Ejiro Amos Tafiri opted for sensual and titillating patterns which left many gasping for breath. No doubt the high point of Day One, EAT paid major attention to details using sheer and racy designs.

One of the biggest spots that got all fashionable likes and pros showing off their fashionable style was the TECNO Booth, simply inspired by the new TECNO Phantom 8.

The irresistible booth was embraced by the top celebrities who stopped by to admire and experience the Phantom 8, and its amazing features.
