If announced as the winner of the rescheduled Lagos East senatorial district bye-election, Tokunbo Abiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, will be making history.
He will be the first scion of a former Lagos Senator to be elected into the same position. The APC candidate’s father, Justice M.A.O. Abiru served as a Lagos East Senator in the Second Republic in 1979.
The Senior Abiru was replaced in office by Chief Ogidan, who took his return ticket, in 1983, before the military coup.
Other senators of Lagos East senatorial district include Anthony Adefuye, Adeseye Ogunlewe, Olorunimbe Mamora, Gbenga Ashafa and Adebayo Osinowo who died earlier this year.
Abiru, 56, was the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Bank Limited, Nigeria. He resigned in August, 2020 to contest the Lagos East senatorial election under the platform of All Progressives Congress.
