1. Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo yesterday Sunday said legal provisions will be utilised to collect taxes on profits made locally by global technology and digital firms not based in Nigeria, but with significant economic presence in the country.
He spoke yesterday during an interaction with a delegation from the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, led by its President, Adesina Adedayo, at the Presidential Villa.
2. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Sunday demolished over 349 illegal structures in Lugbe-Across, along Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The operation was led by the Chairman, FCT Ministerial Committee on City Sanitation, Ikharo Attah, and some security and fire service officers.
3. Nigerian Air Force (NAF) jets bombarded Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province members (ISWAP) at the Lake Chad axis. NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet confirmed the operation.
4. Gunmen, at the weekend, killed a pregnant woman and kidnapped her husband in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State. The Kwara State Police Command spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident yesterday.
5. President Muhammadu Buhari has said the fresh threat by the Niger Delta Avengers to resume hostilities in the region is unnecessary. Reacting through Femi Adesina, his spokesman, on Sunday, Buhari said he had addressed most of the issues raised by the militants.
6. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has said he would not hesitate to give land to any Fulani man who intends to do livestock business through ranching. Speaking in Abuja at the 72nd birthday of Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher, former Nigerian Ambassador to Mexico, Ortom dismissed the insinuation that he is on a war path with Fulanis.
7. Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has finally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad.
8. Governors and other top political officials were at the palace of the Emir of Kano yesterday to formalise plans for the wedding of Yusuf Buhari, the president’s son and the daughter of Emir of Bichi. The wedding is billed to hold between August and September.
9. Former Anambra South Senator, Andy Uba, has been declared winner of the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State. Ubah emerged winner in the primary election contested by 13 other aspirants.
