In a decisive move to maintain stability and uphold the principle of checks and balances, the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) has chosen Rt. Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa as the Speaker for the 10th Assembly Session of the Lagos State House of Assembly, as exclusively revealed by thegazellenews.com.
During a meeting held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, the highest decision-making body in Lagos reached a consensus, opting for continuity by allowing Obasa to remain in office. As part of the resolution, Honourable Mustain Abiodun Tobun, representing Epe State Constituency I, was selected as the new Deputy Speaker. This appointment follows the departure of Honourable Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, who was elected to represent Lagos Central Senatorial District in the Upper Legislative Chamber.
Sources close to thegazellenews.com disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu entrusted the GAC members with the responsibility of addressing the ongoing Speakership crisis in the state House of Assembly.
“When the GAC members convened on Saturday, they meticulously considered numerous factors, focusing primarily on maintaining stability within the House, adhering to the principles of checks and balances, and respecting the issue of zoning,” revealed the sources.
The meeting reached a consensus that the evolution of power in the state naturally aligns with the zoning balance: the Governor from Lagos Central, the Deputy from Lagos East, and the Speaker from Lagos West.
Furthermore, it was unanimously agreed that Honourable Tobun would assume the position of Deputy Speaker, while the remaining Principal Officers would be chosen by the members at their discretion.
