World Record Holder Tobi Amusan has won silver in the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, marking her first major podium finish since her historic world title triumph in 2022.

Amusan clocked an impressive 12.28 seconds in the final, finishing just behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who stormed to gold in a new national record time of 12.24 seconds.

American hurdler Grace Stark claimed bronze with 12.34 seconds, while her compatriot Masai Russell narrowly missed out, finishing fourth in 12.44 seconds.

The former world champion and world record holder showed consistency throughout the tournament. She opened her campaign with victory in her heat, running 12.53 seconds, before qualifying for the final with 12.36 seconds in the semifinals.

In a star-studded final, Amusan lined up against some of the world’s best hurdlers, including Stark and Russell (USA), Danielle Williams (Jamaica), Nadine Visserb (Netherlands), Devynne Charlton (Bahamas), and Pia Skrzyszowska (Poland).

Amusan’s silver medal is a major boost for Team Nigeria, reaffirming her status as one of the country’s most consistent global athletes and rekindling hopes for more podium finishes as preparations build toward the Paris 2028 Olympics.
