Tinubu’s ex-ADC emerges new Oniru of Iruland

The Lagos State Government has approved the appointment of the Commissioner for Agriculture, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, as the Oniru-elect of Iruland.

Lawal is also a former aide-de-camp to the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

A statement by Mr Gboyega Akosile, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday stated that Lawal’s appointment was approved during the State Executive Council meeting where final ratification was made on his nomination.

The statement added that the appointment takes immediate effect from Friday afternoon.

The new monarch will succeed the former Oniru of Iruland, the late Oba Abiodun Idowu Oniru, who passed on after a brief illness on September 23, 2019 at the age of 82.

There had been a tussle among some royal families over who would succeed the late monarch.
Born on July 24, 1970, to late Chief T. A. Lawal-Akapo, the Ojora of Lagos from 1977 to 1993, and Olori M. A. Lawal-Akapo, Prince Lawal hails from the Ojora, Aromire, Shokun and Abisogun branch of Oniru Royal families of Lagos State.
