President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Muhammad Babangida, son of former military head of state Ibrahim Babangida, as the new Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.
The appointment, announced on Friday, July 18, 2025, comes as part of a leadership reshuffle across multiple federal agencies.
Babangida’s emergence at the helm of the Bank of Agriculture follows recent restructuring efforts aimed at revitalizing the institution’s role in supporting Nigeria’s agricultural and rural development.
Aged 53, Babangida holds a degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland.
He is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School’s corporate governance program, completed in 2002.
President Tinubu also announced several other high-profile appointments across sectors including education, trade, oil and gas, electricity, and water resources.
The new agency heads are expected to play critical roles in advancing the administration’s economic recovery and institutional reform agenda.
Among the notable appointees are Lydia Kalat Musa from Kaduna State who has been named Chairperson of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority.
Also, Jamilu Wada Aliyu from Kano State who will head the National Educational Research and Development Council.
Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa from Kano State will becomes Chairman of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria.
Sanusi Musa (SAN) also from Kano State takes charge of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution.
Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu from Sokoto State is now Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa.
Sanusi Garba Rikiji from Zamfara State has been appointed Director-General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations.
Tomi Somefun, Oyo State, becomes Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission.
Dr. Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria, Kaduna State, will serve as Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission.
The presidency stated that the appointments are designed to “bring competent, reform-driven leadership to critical sectors,” in line with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
