President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally forwarded a list of three non‑career ambassadorial nominees to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation, ending a two‑year diplomatic vacuum after the mass recall of Nigerian envoys in 2023.

The nominees: Kayode Are, Aminu Dalhatu and Ayodele Oke were announced during today’s plenary session when Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letter from the president.

The letter refers the nominees to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, with a directive for the committee to report back within a week.

According to the presidency, the nominations follow constitutional provisions under Section 171, and reflect a commitment to rebuilding Nigeria’s foreign‑service capacity after diplomatic missions worldwide operated without confirmed ambassadors since their recall in September 2023.

If confirmed, the new ambassadors will be deployed to key embassies abroad.
