President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reversed the appointment of Rotimi Pedro as the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), just 12 days after the announcement.
Pedro, a Lagos State indigene and former Bloomberg Television Africa broadcaster, was named NTA DG on August 20 alongside three other appointees: Karimah Bello (Executive Director of Marketing), Stella Din (Executive Director of News), and Sophia Mohammed (Managing Director, NTA Enterprises Limited).
However, in a statement on Tuesday signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu ordered the reinstatement of Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, who had served as NTA DG since his appointment in October 2023.
“He will now return to complete his three-year tenure,” Onanuga said.
The President also directed the recall of Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News, to complete his tenure ending in 2027. Adewuyi was appointed by Tinubu in 2024.
The new directive nullifies the previously announced appointments of the DG, Executive Director of News, Executive Director of Marketing, and Managing Director of NTA Enterprises.
