President Bola Tinubu met with the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, and other lawmakers at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, amidst a lingering leadership crisis in the Assembly.

The closed-door meeting, which lasted around two hours, was shrouded in secrecy, with Obasa declining to comment on the discussions.

Sources close to the meeting, however, suggested that it was connected to the recent impeachment and reinstatement of Obasa as Speaker.

The lawmakers, who arrived at the Presidential Villa in two coaster buses, were seen singing a popular political slogan, “On your mandate, we shall stand,” as they left the meeting.

The song is often seen as a show of loyalty to the President.

House of Representatives member James Faleke, who attended the meeting, briefly spoke to journalists, saying, “It went well.”

Unconfirmed reports suggest that some lawmakers may have apologized to Obasa over his recent impeachment, which was reportedly sparked by a controversy surrounding a N5 billion vehicle purchase.

Despite his reinstatement on March 3, 2025, tensions within the Assembly are said to persist.

The meeting has sparked speculation about the President’s involvement in resolving the crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
