President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours on Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, rewarding the players with $100,000 (N152 million) each and a three-bedroom flat.

Receiving the 10-time African champions at the Presidential Villa on Monday, Tinubu praised the team’s “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination and courage” after they overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco 3–2 in a dramatic final.

“You have brought pride and honour to our nation. This victory couldn’t have been more historic,” the President said at the State Banquet Hall as team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and vice-captain Chiamaka Nnadozie presented the trophy to him and First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu.

Members of the technical crew were also honoured with $50,000 each in recognition of their role in securing Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title.

The reception fulfilled a promise Tinubu made in a video call to the players after their triumph, during which he congratulated Ajibade for emerging as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and winning the Woman of the Tournament award.

The Falcons’ comeback from 2–0 down at halftime to snatch victory at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium has been described as one of the most dramatic moments in African women’s football.

The result cements Nigeria’s dominance on the continent, with the team winning four of the last five WAFCON tournaments (2014, 2016, 2018, and 2024).

President Tinubu said the triumph represents more than a sporting achievement, noting its role in fostering national unity, promoting women’s empowerment, and inspiring the next generation of Nigerian athletes.

“Your victory is not just a win on the pitch; it’s a statement to every young girl in Nigeria that dreams are valid and achievable,”* Tinubu said.

The Super Falcons’ visit to the Villa kicks off a series of official engagements to celebrate their achievement, with plans for a nationwide victory parade to honour the team’s exceptional performance on the continental stage.

With their 10th WAFCON title secured, the Super Falcons have further strengthened their status as Africa’s most successful women’s football team, while reigniting Nigeria’s passion for the beautiful game.
