President Bola Tinubu has made a significant promise by giving automatic employment to the 774 fellows under the newly launched National Health Fellows Programme.

During the programme’s official launch on Thursday at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, President Tinubu assured the fellows of automatic employment after their one-year service, saying “You are hired”.

This move emphasizes his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.

The National Health Fellows Programme is a key initiative under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, approved in April 2024 to enhance accountability and efficiency in healthcare delivery.

The fellows, who have been undergoing training since February 27, 2025, will monitor Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the nation’s 774 local government areas.

President Tinubu’s announcement was preceded by a call from Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, to integrate the fellows into the workforce to advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nigeria.

The programme aims to cultivate a pipeline of health leaders to drive meaningful, sustained change and innovation within Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

With this initiative, President Tinubu is demonstrating his faith in young Nigerians to become catalysts for change in their communities.
