President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Thursday, August 14, for a two-nation diplomatic mission to Japan and Brazil, with a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The information was confirmed in a statement released the special adviser to the president on Information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday.
The visit will begin in Japan, where President Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled to hold in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.
Themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” the conference will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, private sector investment, institutional reform, and the promotion of a resilient and sustainable African society rooted in peace and security.
The President is also expected to engage in bilateral meetings and interact with executives of Japanese firms with current or prospective investments in Nigeria.
TICAD, launched in 1993, is co-hosted by the Japanese government, the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and the World Bank.
Following the Japan leg, Tinubu will travel to Brasilia, Brazil, on August 24 for a two-day state visit ending August 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
While in Brazil, he will hold a bilateral meeting with President Lula and participate in a business forum with Brazilian investors.
President Tinubu’s delegation, comprising senior government officials and ministers, will explore opportunities to strengthen cooperation and sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Brazilian government to boost bilateral relations.
