Tinubu Assigns Posts to Reno Omokri, Fani-Kayode, Others Months After Senate Confirmation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the diplomatic postings of 65 career and non-career ambassadors including Reno Omokri, Femi Fani-Kayode and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, months after their nomination and confirmation by the Senate.

The appointments were announced on Friday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the postings involve 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors earlier confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.

Among the notable non-career appointees is Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide and social media commentator, who has been posted to Mexico City, Mexico.

Omokri served as a special assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan and later gained prominence as a political commentator, author and motivational speaker known for his “Renos Nuggets” series on social media.

Also appointed is Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation and one-time presidential spokesman, who will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany.

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who represents Ondo South Senatorial District and is known for his vast business interests in sectors such as energy, hospitality, aviation and media, has been appointed as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Other notable figures on the non-career list include former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who was posted to Spain, and former presidential aide Ita Enang, assigned to South Africa.

Retired military and security officials also feature among the postings. Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, a former Chief of Army Staff and Minister of Interior, will represent Nigeria in China, while Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, has been posted to the Philippines.

The list also includes former Lagos Deputy Governor Olufemi Pedro, posted to Australia, former Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole, assigned to Canada, and former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Ayodele Oke, who will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to France.

According to the Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate to the UK, while France has also approved the posting of Ayodele Oke.

The ministry has also transmitted the nominations of other ambassadors-designate to their respective host countries for diplomatic clearance in line with international practice.

President Tinubu has further directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment to their respective missions.
