President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, as Chairman of the Board of the newly established National Credit Guarantee Company Limited (NCGC).

The company is part of the administration’s efforts to improve access to finance for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and other business segments across Nigeria.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Presidency on Thursday.

Also appointed is Mr. Bonaventure Okhaimo, who will serve as the MD and CEO of NCGC, which has been launched with a N100 billion initial capital.

According to the statement, the NCGC is a transformative institution designed to de-risk lending and expand access to finance for MSMEs, small corporates, manufacturers, consumers, and large businesses.

The creation of the NCGC aligns with President Tinubu’s 2025 New Year pledge to unlock credit opportunities and drive inclusive economic growth across Nigeria.

Other key appointments include Mrs. Tinoula Aigwedo as Executive Director, Strategy and Operations; Dr. Ezekiel Oseni as Executive Director, Risk Management; Ms. Yeside Kazeem, a seasoned actuarial expert, as Independent Non-Executive Director

The NCGC board also includes non-executive representatives from critical financial and economic institutions.

The ₦100 billion capital pool was sourced from a consortium comprising MOFI, NSIA, BOI, and Credicorp.

Additionally, the World Bank Group is supporting the new institution with technical assistance, drawing from its experience with similar credit guarantee models globally.

The establishment of the NCGC marks a significant step in Tinubu’s broader economic reform agenda aimed at accelerating private sector development and expanding economic opportunities for Nigerians.
