President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Olatunji Rilwan Disu as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in a ceremony held at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja on Wednesday.

Disu’s appointment comes after a swift leadership transition at the top of the Nigeria Police Force.

The event, which preceded the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, saw President Tinubu administer the oath of office to Disu in the presence of several senior government officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, ministers, security chiefs, and family members of the new IGP.

The President also swore in six commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and two commissioners of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC).

Disu, 59, was first appointed acting IGP on February 24, 2026, following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

His elevation to the substantive role was unanimously endorsed by the Nigeria Police Council earlier in the week, clearing the way for Wednesday’s swearing-in.

Disu’s extensive career spans more than three decades and includes leadership positions such as head of the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Lagos and commander of the Rapid Response Squad, where he gained recognition for his work in crime control.
