Award winning singer, Tems has made history by becoming the first female African artist to have a song surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.
The achievement comes courtesy of her joint single “Wait For U” alongside Future and Drake.
The 2022 track, which samples Tems’ own hit “Higher” from her 2020 EP “For Broken Ears”, has garnered immense popularity, setting a new milestone for the artist.
“Wait For U” not only reached 1 billion streams but also made a major hit on the global stage, debuting at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart—a first for an African artist.
Beyond its streaming success, the song earned two Grammy nominations and took home the prestigious award for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
This achievement corroborate Tems’ continued success, including her second Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance for her track “Love Me JeJe” at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.
