On July 1, 2022, the Youth Powered Eco-System to Advance Urban Adolescent Health (YPE4AH) Project Champions for Change C4C Adolescents embarked on an humanitarian service project in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.
These adoelscents were trained under the 5-year USAID-YPE4AH Project in Lagos and Kano States.
The clean up project was initiated by the young leaders to further take proactive actions in providing solutions to challenges facing young adolescents in the society.
Over 35 young adolescents from Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Gbagada converged in Ikorodu to clean the popular Ladega Market.
In the course of the exercise, the Champions interfaced with young people, market men/women and passers-by on issues affecting adolescents such as high rate of drug abuse and gender-based violence.
They also encouraged the public to enroll their children within the ages of 15-19 years to the Hub centres close to their locations.
The clean-up exercise drew the attention of the residents who commended the adolescents for making out time to render such selfless service to the community.
Also present were the YPE4AH Project Team and Youth Champions who came out to support the young adolescents and guide them. They equally applauded the team for the initiative.
Champion Nurudeen, an adolescent from Araromi, thanked United State Agency for International Development (USAID) for bringing the YPE4AH Project to Nigeria.
He said the project has helped him discovered himself and helped to build his leadership skills, adding that he is now taking responsibility to advance his community.
