It was black Monday for passengers of a train on the Abuja-Kaduna rail track after an attack was launched by suspected terrorists.
Report has it that the incident occurred in the Kateri-Rijana area of Kaduna State. The attackers reportedly planted explosives on the train which went off and left many passengers injured.
According to The PUNCH, there are indications that some of the 970 passengers on board might have been kidnapped by the gunmen. However, security operatives have been deployed to the scene.
Confirming the development in a statement, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan said some passengers sustained injuries, adding that “rescue efforts” are currently ongoing.
He further stated that the Kaduna State Government will work with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to get a list of all passengers that were on the train in order to ensure that all persons are accounted for.

“Dear passengers, due to unforeseen circumstances, Train operations along the Abuja-Kaduna route has been temporarily suspended. Further communication would be given in due course,” it wrote on Twitter on Tuesday morning.
