The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has officially initiated grid restoration efforts, with significant progress already achieved across various regions of the country.

This development comes shortly after a major power outage that occurred at 12:35 a.m. on Thursday, sending shockwaves throughout the nation.

The General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, Ndidi Mbah conveyed this pivotal announcement via a press statement released recently.

The statement provided crucial insights into the ongoing efforts to restore power supply to millions of Nigerians affected by the blackout.

TCN reported that the restoration process is well underway and has reached advanced stages in multiple regions, encompassing the West, North Central, South, East, and a substantial portion of the northern states.

This news brings relief to citizens who endured a power vacuum after over 421 days of consistent grid stability.

While acknowledging the challenges faced during the restoration process, TCN emphasized that these obstacles did not constitute another grid collapse.

Such hurdles are typical during complex grid restoration endeavors, and the company assured that they were promptly addressed.

The grid’s recent stability, maintained for an impressive 421 days before this incident, is a testament to TCN’s dedication and adaptability.

Despite inherent challenges such as the lack of spinning reserve and the absence of System Control and adequate Data Acquisition (SCADA), TCN developed and implemented in-house measures and tools to sustain grid stability.

Furthermore, TCN is committed to investigating the recent collapse, which followed a fire incident on the Kanji/Jebba 330kV line 2.

This investigation aims to prevent future occurrences and enhance the overall resilience of the national grid.
