The suspended Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos State, Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo has denied viral reports that he authorised the sales of tickets at parks and garages in Lagos State.
Some news platforms had reported that the embattled union leader directed the Lagos NURTW members to return to motor parks across the state, and continue sales of tickets to commercial motorists at garages and bus stops.
This comes days after the Lagos State Government banned the operations of the transport union in the state, and announced that it would set up a committee to immediately take control of the parks and garages.
However, MC Oluomo, in a statement issued on Monday, said he has no authority to stop the government from enforcing its order.
The statement read, “My attention has been drawn to a purpoted news going round on social media on me authorising the sales of Tickets.
“I have never authorised the sales of Union Tickets. The sales of Lagos state Tickets issued being sold at all the parks and garages across the State.
“I am a law abiding citizen. I can not stop the sales of Government Tickets. I don’t even have such powers. Please disregard the mix up.”
Recall that the national body of the NURTW had suspended MC Oluomo over allegations of misconduct. In a swift reaction, the suspended union leader announced the withdrawal of the Lagos State chapter from the NURTW national body and called on the Lagos State Government to take over the parks and garages.
