The suspended chairman of Alimosho Local Government Area in Lagos State, Jelili Sulaimon, has reached out to the Lagos State House of Assembly, requesting forgiveness almost a month after his suspension.
In a letter of apology addressed to Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, Sulaimon acknowledged his prior conduct, expressing regret over actions perceived as disrespectful toward the legislative body.
In the letter, read aloud on the House floor on Tuesday, Sulaimon conveyed his commitment to fostering a renewed and respectful working relationship.
“I am writing to express my most sincere and heartfelt apology for any actions or inactions, misrepresentation or conduct on my part that may have contributed to the recent misunderstanding between myself and the esteemed Lagos State House of Assembly under your leadership,” he stated.
Sulaimon admitted that his past decisions might have been misinterpreted as defiant and promised to rectify this by ensuring utmost respect for the Assembly moving forward.
Furthermore, the suspended chairman informed the Assembly of his decision to withdraw the lawsuit he previously filed against the House at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
This legal move was initially part of his reaction to the suspension, which was imposed on allegations of non-compliance, defiance, and an unyielding attitude toward the legislative body.
“I deeply regret any discomfort or displeasure this may have caused… I am committed to fostering a more constructive and respectful relationship going forward,” Sulaimon’s letter continued, emphasizing his intention to work collaboratively with the Assembly.
The Lagos State House of Assembly has yet to deliberate on Sulaimon’s appeal.
This development was confirmed by Eromosele Ebhomele, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
