The Jigawa State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension of four council chairmen, ending a 15-week hiatus from their official duties.
The affected chairmen, Bappa Shinge of Auyo Local Government Area, Bala Usman-Chamo of Dutse LGA, Ahmed Rufa’i of Gumel LGA, and Shehu Sule-Udi of Ringim LGA, were suspended on March 6 over allegations of misconduct, negligence, and misappropriation of public funds.
An ad hoc committee investigated the allegations and presented its report to the Assembly, recommending that the suspension be lifted. The Assembly voted in favor of the recommendation, and the Speaker, Haruna Aliyu, recalled the chairmen to resume office immediately.
Reacting to the development, Bala Usman-Chamo, Chairman of Dutse LGA, commended the lawmakers for their gesture and thanked supporters and well-wishers for their solidarity during the suspension period.
The chairmen’s suspension was lifted after they appeared before the Assembly’s committee to answer questions and provide explanations on the allegations leveled against them.
The committee’s report deemed their responses satisfactory, paving the way for their reinstatement.
