The House of Representatives, on Wednesday, called for the immediate suspension of the controversial Federal Government’s Special Works Scheme.
The green chamber, at a plenary session, asked the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning not to fund the scheme.
The National Assembly had appropriated N52bn for the exercise in the 2020 Appropriation Act which was initially billed to commence in November.
The House also faulted the removal of the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment, Dr Nasiru Argungu, while asking President Muhammadu Buhari to retract the decision.
The Federal Government, through the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, announced, on Sunday, the commencement date for the 774,000 Special Public Works, to begin on January 5, 2021.
Before now, the National Assembly and the Federal Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity had clashed over the recruitment of 774,000 workers for the scheme.
