It appears Sunday Igboho’s clampdown on killer Fulani herdsmen is getting a financial boost, as supporters of the Yoruba rights activist set up a Gofundme page for the purpose of raising £100,000 (N51.8m) for him to buy buses to aid the struggle.
Igboho, whose real name is Sunday Adeyemo, while speaking at a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday morning, had said, “I need buses to transport people. The three vans we use are bought by me. We lost three buses that were hired on our way to Oyo.”
Initiated by Maureen Badejo, a UK-based blogger and activist, the fundraiser has garnered £9,320 (N4.8m) within 15 hours.
A visit to the Gofundme page showed that several persons of Yoruba extraction had made donations.
Recall Igboho had issued a seven-day ultimatum to herders in Ibarapa area of Oyo state, accusing them of crimes such as kidnapping, killings, destruction of farmland and insecurity in the state.
To reinstate his quit notice, he had confronted the herders with his supporters. On Monday, he visited Ogun State to push the same order and he was received by thousands of youths.
