Supporters of suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan gathered in large numbers on Tuesday in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, despite a ban on public gatherings imposed by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo.
Ahead of the event, Kogi State Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye had issued a statement through command spokesman SP Williams Ovye-Aya, warning that the planned gathering violated the state’s directive due to security concerns. The police urged Akpoti-Uduaghan to cancel the event to maintain peace.
However, images circulating online showed large crowds holding placards with inscriptions such as “Welcome home, worthy daughter of Ebiraland” and “The people of Adavi are solidly behind you.” Local musicians performed as supporters awaited her arrival.
Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived in a white helicopter and was met with cheers. Addressing the gathering, she said, “This is not political season, this is not campaign time. I am simply here to celebrate Sallah with my people. Nobody and nothing can stop me from coming home.”
The event took place amid ongoing political developments, including her suspension and a recall process against her.
