In a remarkable feat, the Super Falcons of Nigeria have surged ahead by eight places in the most recent FIFA Coca-Cola women’s world ranking, which was unveiled on Friday morning.
The updated rankings were made available on FIFA’s official website.
Previously standing at 40th position, the nine-time African champions have now risen to occupy the 32nd spot on the global stage.
This impressive ascent is largely attributed to the Super Falcons’ stellar performance during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Throughout the tournament, the Nigerian team showcased their prowess by maintaining an unbeaten record during the group stage.
Notably, they held the Olympic champions Canada to a goalless draw and secured a victory against co-hosts Australia with a 3-2 scoreline.
Although their journey came to an end in the last-16 stage, where they were narrowly defeated 4-2 on penalties by The Three Lionesses of England, the Super Falcons’ valiant efforts have undeniably contributed to their enhanced ranking.
The team’s consistent success has solidified their status as the leading women’s soccer team in Africa.
Holding onto their title, they remain the number-one team on the continent.
Behind them, South Africa, Cameroon, Morocco, and Ghana form the top five teams in Africa.
