Chelsea winger, Raheem Sterling, scored twice to secure a much-needed three points for ten-man Chelsea as they beat Leicester 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Conor Gallagher’s first-half red card made things more difficult for the Blues, who were also without manager Thomas Tuchel on the touchline as he served a one-match ban.
The Blues started fast on the attack as they attempted to bounce back from last week’s shocking 3-0 loss at Leeds, but failed to make an early breakthrough.
Gallagher’s tough start to life in the first team continued as he picked up two yellow cards in the space of six minutes within the opening half-hour. The first of the cards came on 22 minutes, as the 22-year-old brought down Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
The second occurred two minutes before the half-mark as he prevented a Leicester City counter by cynically fouling Harvey Barnes, which eventually landed him a red card
Not long into the second half, ten-man Chelsea made the breakthrough through Raheem Sterling’s deflected effort, which looped over Danny Ward, to put the home side ahead.
Sterling doubled his tally and Chelsea’s lead in the 63rd minute as he slotted in a fine finish, from Reece James’ cross.
The game was far from over though, as Barnes pulled one back for Leicester in the 66th minute by squeezing a shot past Mendy at his near post.
Jamie Vardy’s side-netting effort and Ayoze Perez’s crossbar rattler provided the home supporters with a couple of scary moments late on, but Chelsea ultimately saw out the win.
The win means that Chelsea has climbed from 9th to 6th place on the league’s log.
