‘Squid Game’ actor, 77-year-old Yeong-su wins Golden Globe Awards

Actor O Yeong-su, on Monday, made history as the first Korean actor to win a Golden Globe after he bagged the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in the mega-hit Netflix series, ‘Squid Game’.

The 77-year-old, who has never won a Golden Globe before, earned the top prize for his portrayal of Oh II-nam, also referred to as The Host or Player 001.

The South Korean actor triumphed in the ‘Best Supporting Actor In A TV Drama’ category, beating Kieran Culkin for Succession, Ted Lasso star Brett Goldestein and The Morning Show’s Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass.

At 77, O Yeong-su is now the oldest male actor to ever win a Golden Globe.

The win was announced at a private Golden Globes ceremony in Los Angeles, after an in-person award ceremony was cancelled owing to lack of diversity.

O Yeong-su’s character served as a companion for protagonist Seong Gi-hun in ‘Squid Game’, only to end up being at the centre of one of the biggest twists of the whole show.
