Soldier, Area Boys Rescue 11-month Baby About To Be Kidnapped In Gbagada, Lagos

A kidnap attempt on an 11-month-old baby was cut short after the quick intervention of a Nigerian Army officer and some area boys in Gbagada area of Lagos.

It was learnt that the mother of the baby had stepped out of her car to purchase meat from vendors across the street leaving her baby and her grandma in the car with its engine still on.

The suspect on sighting the vehicle ordered the grandma out of the car and drove off.

The suspect however got a chase from a soldier who was passing by at the moment of the incident and got hold of a motorcycle which he used to go after him. The chase caused accident. With the intervention of area boys around, the soldier was able to rescue the baby and arrest the suspect.

According to Adebowale Olayinka (eyewitness), “A woman car was snatched yesterday afternoon with 22 month old baby inside the car.

“The woman parked along the road and left the baby and her granny inside the car with the car engine running to buy meat at the road side along Gbagada, Lagos and the kidnapper entered the car and sent the granny down and drove off the car with the baby.”

“Fortunately, a soldier was passing by, immediately he took a bike to run after him, this led to multiple accident on the road and the car stopped working and the kidnapper decided to lock himself and the baby inside the car in the middle of the express way but area boys came to rescue of the baby.

“He was caught and was taken to Pedro Police Station at Somolu. Please always be careful of leaving children in a car alone or with anybody, if you are going to buy anything, make sure the car is locked even if the engine is still working,” he narrated.
